Generally, the best time to visit Bali is between April-May or September-October. These months make up Bali’s “shoulder season,” aka, the season in between peak travel times and off-season. Bali’s best weather—warm, sunny and dry—occurs between April and October, but June through August can be very busy and crowded months in Bali. If you’re looking for a winter escape, book early, or travel right before or right after peak months.
Christmas and New Year are also popular times to visit Bali, even though it’s during rainy season. If you want to visit during the holidays, expect to see a bit higher prices and rainier weather.

Why do Australian students love visiting Bali?
Bali is a favorite destination among Australian students for a number of reasons: it’s nearby—just a few hours from Perth—and definitely one of the closest international destinations for Aussies. It’s also cheap, from tickets to accommodations to activities, so your whole holiday won’t break the bank. Not to mention that it’s a luxurious paradise that’s perfect for relaxing or adventure.
Bali universities and campuses
Although Bali isn’t often thought of as a study abroad destination, it can be an amazing place to study for a semester, especially if you’re studying something like oceanography, ecology or similar sciences. Of course, if you’re not, don’t count yourself out—Udayana University has several study-abroad programmes you can choose from. You can also check with your uni to see what options they might have.
Bali lifestyle and culture
Bali has a unique traditional culture that Balinese people are quite proud of. You’ll fall in love with their warmth and hospitality, the friendly personality of many locals and the relaxed ‘island life’ vibes across the island. Of course, there’s more to Bali than just modern island life. Visit a local temple or cultural festival to learn more about Bali’s history and traditional culture. Taste some of the local foods or visit a restaurant that incorporates typical Indonesian flavors with international foods.
Exploring Bali on a student budget
Thankfully, Bali is pretty easy to explore on a student budget! Accommodations and food are both very reasonable—save the most by staying in backpackers hostels or sharing an Airbnb with a group of friends. Many of Bali’s temples are free or have just a small entrance fee (a few Australian dollars, typically), so you can explore Bali’s culture without spending too much. And of course, all of Bali’s stunning scenery is free: from hiking to waterfalls to surfing on the beach, you won’t have to spend much to soak in Bali’s natural beauty.
